At a time when LGBTIQ+ human rights worldwide are under attack, Canada must play an increased role in supporting global LGBTIQ+ movements.

With our membership of over 60 members, our network connects civil society organizations in Canada that work toward global LGBTIQ+ human rights — and unites their work through collective advocacy.

Dignity Network Canada works to maximize the impact that Canada — including the Canadian government, Canadian civil society, and Canadian philanthropy — can have in the movement for global LGBTIQ+ human rights. We achieve this by serving as a convenor and as a leading voice in advocacy and policy.

Our work is rooted in the global pride movement and committed to supporting LGBTIQ+ rights leadership, particularly in the Global South and East. This includes a commitment to decolonization and promoting racial and Indigenous justice.

Together, we are creating a world where all people, regardless of their sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, and/or sex characteristics (SOGIESC), can live with dignity.

Mission

To build a global movement for the rights and dignity of diverse SOGIESC communities.

Vision

A world where people of diverse SOGIESC (often referred to as LGBTIQ+) can thrive and be treated with dignity.

Principles

Nothing About Us Without Us
Everyone Has a Role to Play
We Will Not Be Divided
We Are Accountable to a Global Movement
Dignity Network Canada uses the acronym “LGBTIQ+”. The acronym is used internationally as an inclusive umbrella term to refer to people of diverse sexual orientations, gender identities and expressions, and sex characteristics (SOGIESC). We acknowledge that different institutions, communities, and regions use varied terminology, and that language continues to evolve. It is important to note that “2SLGBTQI+” is used in Canada, by both the Canadian Government and Canadian civil society. “2S” (Two-Spirit) refers specifically to traditional gender diversity within various North American Indigenous populations, and is not typically used at the global level.
